Settlement activity is the only metric that matters. Everything that can be counted on SWSS Chain is public, permanent, and independent of any claim made in this document.
The performance of the SWSS Chain ecosystem is measured through on-chain activity, not through reported figures or platform-controlled dashboards. Every settlement event, every Finality Certificate, every governance vote, and every Transactional Settlement Levy retirement is permanently recorded on SWSS Chain and publicly verifiable at swssscan.swss.io.
The standard this section holds itself to is that every indicator below can be checked by a party that trusts nothing in this document. That is why each names the chain as its source rather than a SWSS interface: an indicator only a SWSS property can report is a claim, however carefully it is measured, and a settlement layer should not be asking to be believed about its own settlement volume.

How To Verify An Indicator
swss facts explain --tiers
No counts, heights or cumulative totals are printed in this section, and this is why. A block height is wrong the second after it is written; a tier is not. What this document owes a reader is the address of the truth, not a snapshot of it.
A table of indicators is worth nothing if the reader cannot act on it, so the method is stated rather than assumed. Open the explorer, which requires no account, no key and no application. Every settlement is a transaction of a known class, so a cumulative figure is a count over transactions of that class; every Finality Certificate is emitted by consensus at the block that settled it; every levy retirement is a state change on the coin supply; and every governance vote is a transaction carrying the address that cast it.
None of that requires cooperation from SWSS. That is the property being claimed — not that the figures are audited, but that they are reproducible by someone who does not believe them. Where a number in any SWSS document disagrees with what the chain returns, the chain is correct, and this section would rather be checked than trusted.
Why No Current Figures Are Printed
This section lists what is measured and where to read it, and deliberately prints no totals. A settlement count written into a document is wrong within the hour and stays wrong until someone remembers to edit it — and the readers most likely to rely on it are the ones least likely to notice it has aged. This ecosystem has already published a protocol version in one place that the running network contradicted in another; a printed metric fails the same way, but faster.
Values that genuinely belong in the document are published once and read from the chain or from the shared content record, so that a change reaches every SWSS property at the same moment. Live ecosystem figures are surfaced in the interfaces built to show them — the explorer for chain activity, the SWSS App for a member's own position — where they are current by construction rather than by maintenance.
What This Section Does Not Measure
Everything above is on-chain activity, which means it is a partial account of the ecosystem and should be read as one. Revenue, headcount, marketing reach, off-chain product usage and the commercial performance of individual products do not settle on chain and therefore cannot be verified the way a deed settlement can. They are reported through ordinary corporate channels, subject to ordinary corporate assurance, and this section makes no claim about them.
The distinction is deliberate rather than evasive. An indicator that cannot be independently checked belongs in a different document with a different standard of proof, and mixing the two would let the credibility of the verifiable half carry the unverifiable half. Risk Factors sets out the risks that apply across the ecosystem, and no figure in this whitepaper is a forecast, a target or a promise of return.
